LNG BOG Management

Safe, efficient boil-off gas re-liquefaction for land-based and maritime LNG storage.

The challenge

When storing, bunkering or transferring LNG, boil-off gas (BOG) forms and raises the temperature and pressure inside the storage tank. Left unmanaged, this pressure build-up forces venting of valuable product — or, in the worst case, leads to tank failure.

The solution

Re-liquefying the BOG and relieving tank pressure is the safest and most efficient way to protect your product and your asset. API supplies cryocoolers engineered specifically for LNG BOG, for both land-based and maritime storage tanks.

How API manage BOG

Direct BOG re-liquefaction

Boil-off gas is drawn from the storage tank, re-liquefied and returned to the tank — by gravity or through a separate transfer vessel. Ideal for maritime applications where LNG is transported from one country to another.

Which approach is right for your operation?

The best way to manage BOG depends on your setup — onshore or maritime storage, tank configuration, and throughput all factor in. API's cryogenic engineers help you weigh the options and specify the right cryocooler for your application, so you're not guessing.
